MIA

crazy

What a crazy week this has been! I bet you all have been wondering “Where in the world are they?” Well, it started with me having to leave for three days to Washington DC for training with my current job. There was no access to a computer and even my cell phone had a limited signal. Once I arrived home, I was running around just trying to catch up with things at my current job. Then before I knew it, the weekend was on us. I had made plans to meet a young girl who is the daughter of one of our friends and spend some time with her on Saturday. She enjoys history too, so it was a “win-win” situation for us. We toured some awesome locations on Saturday and had a lot of funny talking. Then Sunday rolled around and my “chores” at home beckoning me. So I gave in and went grocery shopping and did laundry. For some reason my family likes to eat and have clean clothes… who knew?

Then Monday arrived. I thought, “Yes! I can finally catch up on my blog.” Instead, I spent the day with our daughter, who we rarely see now that college is back in and she is working. Then Tuesday and Wednesday rolled around. Back to working my current job and running to get things done for our first public hearing with the county. Thank goodness I have Brett! He kept things moving this past week and half as I just bounced from one thing to the next. I almost feel like I need to just sit in a corner and reorganize my time for the rest of the week!

This week also held a milestone for Brett and I. Tuesday we celebrated our son, Tyler’s birthday with him. He is our youngest. He also turned 21 year old! Time just seems to speed by these days! And if that wasn’t enough of a shock, we will be celebrating our daughter’s birthday a week from Friday! Alexa will be 24 years old. I just have to keep saying it over and over to myself. It just doesn’t seem possible. I swear I was just holding them in my arms the other day! Haha, I have to laugh because Hurley just walked over and “nosed” his head up under my arm as I as typing. It was as if he knew what I was typing and wanted me to know that he was still here. Good Hurley!

Brett headed out of town today to Texas for a business meeting for his current job. Tonight, Tyler is off at a youth class that he heads up at his girlfriend’s church. Alexa is working a double. So I am off to grab a bite to eat, most likely sushi. I generally go when Brett is out of town because he isn’t really big into sushi. I adore it! And in a way, it’s my comfort food.

Once I am done, I will return to write a post or two tonight and catch up on reading the blogs that I follow. There is one thing that I have learned this week too. I miss my blog and visiting with our blog “friends”. I am glad things are settling back down now so I can tell you where we have been and what we have been doing. I can’t wait to see what you all have been up to and what exciting pictures I have missed!

As a matter of fact I was just wondering yesterday where you were?!

I can really relate to the speed with which our children seem to grow – my, son and only child just turned 24 this past Sunday. Also, on Sunday, my oldest nephew and his wife just had their first – a sweet baby girl! I didn’t tell them how fast it will be and she’ll be 20. I’ll leave it for them to discover for themselves.

    Glad you’re back! :-)

Glad to hear from you. I know what it’s like to have current work take over all your time. Happened to me since Christmas. Just finally got a new blog post out, myself.

I thought about you all. Congrats on your kids birthdays. Washington busy? Nah. Just something called an inauguration they tell me. :) Sushi, sounds a bit fishy to me. (Actually I like Sushi, I just felt being silly). I watched the History Channel all last Sunday. They did their entire series on the Presidents. When they got to James Madison, sickly a geek, and hypochondriac. Thank goodness he had Dolley.

    • Thank you for making me laugh! Yes, the sushi was a little fishy, but it was so good! We didn’t get to DC during the inauguration, thankfully. I would have hated to be stuck there in all that crowd.

I wanted to see that! I missed James Madison! You know most stories about him show him that way, but in the bio I just finished on him, he really was a very smart man. He was best friends with Jefferson, but what most don’t know is that he stuck beside Washington during most of Washington time in office. He knew where to go to get ahead and didn’t mind twisting things to his own advantage. He sent then Secretary of State James Monroe to broker a treaty that Madison knew wouldn’t work just so he could make Monroe look back and later beat him to be president. Smart guy! Of course it didn’t hurt that he had a powerhouse like Dolley in his corner either.

I was wondering where you were! And I know what you mean about missing reading our regular blogs. I’ve been away from home all day, and am trying to catch up. Love the pics of your children now and “a few” years ago!

Whew, I was tired just reading that!! Get some well earned rest! Your family seems lovely and I know you must be proud of those hard working children.

  8. I hope this weekend allows you a little time to relax and catch your breath!
I just tried sushi for the 1st time, last month. I was hesitant, but I really liked it!

    • I may get a break on Saturday, but I am off again on Sunday to Manassas. There is a Bridal Expo I want to go to so I can meet some local vendors!

Oh cool! I was the same way about my 1st sushi. But now I just love it too!

  9. Sounds like you had a wonderful week, although I know you were jonsing to write, the time you spent with those young people is priceless.

  10. I understand completely about being MIA. I made a post not that long ago with the same title! I must admit I got tired just reading your blog! :-) Our son turned 29 on Christmas Eve! While 21 and 24 are shocking to a parent I keep thinking to myself “29 is awfully close to 30!” ;-)

  11. Beautiful children. I’ve been frantically busy with work lately, too. I know how that feels. Glad to hear your news.

  12. Crazy how those busy weeks catch up with you! Hope you are able to get a little rest in!

  13. I used to feel guilty when I missed a day writing. One thing I’ve learned over the years, though, is that breaking away from it every now and then helps one’s creativity. Agatha Christie once said she got some of her best ideas while doing dishes!

    • You know I really believe that is true. When I get blocked, I go do something else and my mind starts working out what I want to say. The only thing is I somethings forget what I was thinking on the way back to the computer ;)

No need to apologize for dropping out of the virtual world for activities and responsiblities in the real world. When do you sleep, anyway? :)

    • Haha, as I sit here at 1:39 answering comments and adding a post, I don’t think I do sleep. I tend to be a night owl sometimes so it helps.

Morning Lark myself. My best composition time is 5 a.m. before laundry, bills, garden chores consume the day. I think that I construct posts several times in my head before I have time to assemble the words into a draft.

      • I do that too! I find myself writing them as I am driving back from a location or from the plantation! I need to get a recorder so I can record some of my ideas so I don’t forget them!

      • hermitsdoor says:

I have the advatage that my wife & I commute together. I drive in. She drives home. As the passenger, I can pull out the laptop and compose in draft form.

And I thought it was just me. I haven’t been as faithful in keeping up with my blogging buddies recently. Good to know I’m not the only one who’s overwhelmed.
